Twigs and Photos

I found some cool sticks and a white tumble weed while gardening. I decided to put up some photos I took in Thailand, Russia, Venice, Japan & Puerto Rico and give my twigs & memories a second life. The wire fish sculpture I did freshman year and college and it's probably my favorite thing I created all 4 years.

star crossed elephant lovers

Update "Elephant Love":
So, my vision on the 2 elephants is that one elephant is dead and became a slap of taxidermy on the wall and it's lover is coming to visit it.....more to come....

Virgin Marys of My Past

A watercolor sketch I did in Puerto Rico of the Virgin Mary.
A quick acrylic painting I did of Bentli as baby jesus after a night out at the STANDARD downtown about 2 years ago.
I still LOVE the Virgin Mary & Medical Illustrations after all these years.

Fetus Fun

I am really into old anatomy & medical illustrations.
The 2 black ink fetuses are based after Leonardo da Vinci's fetus sketches.

I was born a messy loose painter, it's just programmed in my wiring that way. So, I tried to be a little tighter and more refined with this one. I think that's why I am attracted to medical
illustrations because they are so different from how I draw & think.

AND I made several checks not to over work it! I did end up over working it 2 more check points than I would have preferred, but it's progress on that front!

it's easy to forget...

....we are all the same on the inside.

I have this one photo of Lindsay Lohan that I ripped from a magazine years ago because the sadness and delicate quality made me want to draw it in ink. It has sat here in a pile since. I didn't get around to it because 1. it's a magazine clipping and 2. it's LINDSAY LOHAN. So, today as I worked on a commissioned painting I decided I am gonna paint something just for me! NOT for school, a friend or a client. That's when I realized I never have drawn anything JUST for me since I graduated college. I always did assignments of things I was interested in, but the "this is going to be turned in and judged" factor was always in the back of my mind.

SO TODAY I WANTED TO PAINT LINDSAY LOHAN AND I DID.

It looks nothing like the imagine that was in my mind as I was ripping it out. Still in the back of my mind i was uptight, that nervous tension and pulsation of wanting perfection (an A+, a school, a job) still flowed in my veins. Only this time it was kind of more nerve racking because I could do anything, this represents me, not an assignment or a job. Anyways I hope if I do enough drawings just because I feel like it I will loosen up and the thrilling aspect will override the perfection tension. It gonna be hard to break I have been taking art lesson since pre-school, then went to RISD then joined the working world. I never had time to do things just for me. I was always working so hard and diligently for my future. And here's my future nothing like I imagined and worked so hard for. SO, now I have nothing to lose.

SO THAT'S IT. HERE ARE MY 2 DRAWINGS. ONE IS LINDSAY THE OTHER IS LILLY ALLEN & I BUSTED OUT THE GRAY'S ANATOMY BOOK. I HAD A VISION AND THEME, BUT THAT'S NOT AS IMPORTANT WAS WHAT I LEARNED FROM THIS NIGHT OF DRAWING. I OVER WORKED THEM BOTH AND AS SOON AS I REALIZED THEY WERE OVER WORKED. I REALIZED I COULD HAVE STOPPED ANYTIME I FELT BECAUSE THEY ARE FOR ME. I KNOW I WILL GET THE HANG OF IT THE MORE I DO IT. SO EXPECT MANY MORE LINDSAY LOHAN AND WHATEVER ELSE I PLEASE

Mixed Media Cycling

The top 2 paintings are the same painting. I can't seem to take a picture to capture the colors right, it's somewhere in between. The blue and red painting is a in progress larger scale custom painting of the bottom green & orange/red one. The process of enlarging the whole thing has been much more difficult than I expected! Waiting on the prints, planning & all that I never guessed could take so long! The smaller one I did the prints at home and its only 12"x9" so it was a quickie!
